I am Deanna Iske, Activity Director at the Piper. I have been an Activity Director for almost 14 years. Working in long-term care and assisted living with residents ranging from 36 to 108 years old. I was born in Kansas City, Missouri but grew up on Air Force bases and attended 13 different schools. My background before activities is varied. Head Start Family Advocate, editor of a newspaper, and owning part of and managing a bar & grill during which I did catering and I was a DJ. They all prepared me in some way to be the activity director I was always meant to be.
Laughter is central to my program. As I have always aspired to be a comedian, namely on Saturday Night Live, I believe laughter can be more important than medicine. I live by the philosophy that everything you emote is contagious, be careful what you put out there. I choose to put out joy.
